Sarah M. Mastrian

Sarah is an associate in Marten Law’s Seattle office. Her practice focuses on advising businesses and local governments on water quality, permitting processes, and regulatory compliance. Sarah has familiarity with issues under various environmental and resource management laws including the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).

Sarah graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 2025, where she served two years as an executive editor for the Michigan Journal of Environmental and Administrative law and acted as Co-Chair of the Environmental Law Society. During law school, Sarah was a legal intern for the Natural Resources Section of the Alaska Department of Law in Anchorage, assisting in federal cases related to fisheries, mining, and subsistence hunting. Sarah also served as a student attorney in the Michigan Environmental Law and Sustainability Clinic where she counseled clients on water quality issues and the complex interplay between state and federal environmental and resource management regulatory frameworks. As a summer associate with Marten Law, Sarah assisted on matters such as water rights adjudications, water quality permitting, emerging contaminants litigation, and consumer products regulations.

Sarah graduated from Indiana University in 2018 with the highest honors, earning a degree in Environmental & Sustainability Studies, with a concentration in sustainable energy, resources, and climate, and in Political Science. During this time, Sarah was inducted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
