Please join us in welcoming James Tupper to Marten Law. James joins our Environmental practice as a partner in the Seattle office. He brings over 30 years’ experience representing industrial and municipal clients on water quality, land use and hazardous waste issues. James brings decades of experience counseling dozens of clients on water quality permitting, solid waste facility permitting, air quality authorizations and environmental review. He has successfully defended permit challenges, citizen suits and enforcement actions in federal and state court and before the Pollution Control Hearings Board and the Shoreline Hearings Board. He also advises clients regarding legislation, regulatory actions including development of federal and state water quality standards and water quality improvement plans - TMDLs.
James has been both an advocate and a judge. He served two terms on the Washington Pollution Control Hearings Board and Shorelines Hearings Board during the Lowry and Locke Administration, from 1994 to 2001.
James has been recognized for his expertise as a Washington Super Lawyers® , and in The Best Lawyers in America. He was named the Best Lawyers® 2015 Environmental Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in Seattle.
James’s arrival at Marten Law solidifies our reputation as a national leader in water quality and water resources issues. Combined with the addition last year of five water lawyers in Idaho, the firm has the largest and most experienced water practice in the Pacific Northwest. We look forward to leveraging James’s skillset in advising our water utility, manufacturing, commercial and municipal clients in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Alaska, and Nevada and across the US.
