Marten Expands Its Environmental Practice

Marten is pleased to welcome six environmental attorneys who have recently joined the Firm, now among the largest and most diversified environmental practices in the West. They are (from left): Zachary Zahner, Emma Lautanen, Brian Daluiso, Abby Bitzenburg, Aidan Freeman, and Kameron Schroeder.

Zachary Zahner practices in the firm’s office in Washington, DC. Zack graduated from Harvard Law School in 2023, where he worked as an Assistant Online Editor for the Harvard Environmental Law Review and was a member of the American Constitutional Society. Zack worked last year as a Summer Associate at Marten, and served as a Legal Intern for the Environmental Protection Division within the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. Before law school, he worked for a data company that advised energy companies on achieving their efficiency and sustainability goals. Zach received his A.B. in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard College.

Emma Lautanen has joined the Firm’s Seattle office. She graduated from University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2023, where she was the Publishing Editor of the Ecology Law Quarterly and served as a member of the Environmental Law Clinic and moot court team. Emma also worked last year as a Summer Associate at Marten, and was a Legal Intern with the Environmental Section of the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General. Before law school, Emma was a legal assistant at an environmental law firm, and received her B.A. with high distinction in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Brian Daluiso joins the Firm’s Boise office as Senior Counsel. He brings over a decade of significant environmental and civil litigation and arbitration experience. Prior to joining Marten, Brian was a Deputy City Attorney in the Harbor Division for the Port of Los Angeles. There, he focused on land use and environmental litigation for the Port and the City. Brian to the Port, Brian worked at Perkins Coie and Snell & Wilmer, where he focused on environmental, energy, and natural resources law, federal Indian law, and commercial and appellate litigation. He graduated from the Boston University School of Law, where he was the managing editor of the Boston University Law Review, and completed his undergraduate education at the University of Idaho.

Abby Bitzenburg is a staff attorney in Marten’s Twin Falls office. She graduated in 2023 from Lewis & Clark Law School, where she served as a student clinician for the Earthrise Law Center. Abby is a native of Twin Falls, and received her Bachelor of Arts from George Fox University, where she studied History and Writing.

Aidan Freeman has joined the Firm’s Portland office following graduation from Lewis & Clark Law School. Aidan earned the Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence, was ranked in the top of his class, and served as a member of the Environmental Law review. Aidan returns to Marten after spending time as a Summer Associate, He was also a Law Clerk for the U.S. Department of Justice, and a Legal Intern for the California Coastkeeper Alliance. Before law school, Aidan worked as an editor and writer. He received his B.A. in Philosophy, and the History of Mathematics and Science from St. John’s College.

Kameron Schroeder joins Aidan in the Firm’s Portland office. He graduated from the University of Oregon Law School this year. Kameron was an Oregon Merit Scholar Recipient, and served as the Co-Director of the Green Business Initiative and Public Interest Environmental Law Conference. He also worked as a Summer Associate at Marten, a Legal Intern for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Office of the General Counsel, and as a Law Clerk for the American Forest Resource Council. Before law school, Kameron was an Invasive Species Inspector. Kameron received both a B.S. and Master of Environmental Policy from Duke University, where he was valedictorian.
